The establishment of the Old Age Home at Pungannur Village is being maintaining by the Organization over the last two decades with aim of providing shelter to the orphaned, exiled and abonded aged. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment Govt of India, had sanctioned us to run one unit of AGED HOME through its funding. There are one professionally qualified psychological counsellors and Nurse , one superintendent, one cook, one helper and one watch man are providing the services to aged . There is 25 aged people are accommodated at a time. To promote the facilities to the beneficiaries of the Home additional dormitory, Solar water heater and medical equipment have been provided

OBJECTIVES OF THE AGED HOME

• To provide conducive atmoshphere to the orphaned aged with care and support services of nutritious food , medical aid and basic amenities. To solve socio related psychosomatic problems of individual aged.

• To reduce nervous tension and dejection.

• To inspire principal good and assemblage life problematic aged person

• To promote Younger and aged synchronization in the family.

INDOOR ACTIVITIES

The Aged Home is performing services to the abonded, orphaned exiled, uncared aged people as institutionalized with nutritious support, Counselling assistance, Medical support and legal aid.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

The Aged Home frequently conducts outreach awareness programmes in pertaining to the more skewed cases dealt with.Beside this, general public centered promoting programmes such as medical camps, legal literacy, blood camps and sanitation campaign and so on.

ACTIVITIES OF THE PROGRAM:-

With dedicated staff, the Home for the Aged “SARANALAYM “is giving proper care and support to every individual of the inmates. 25 deserved aged are accommodated presently in the spacious building with prerequisite of basic amenities. The environment of the Home is given importance to hygienic environment. Further amusement provisions also provided to the aged to reduce their stress and depression. Nutritious food is properly provided and for health care, a Part time Doctor visits periodically weekly once and one female nurse also giving attention to the aged every day.

Spiritualistic guidance is quiet down their frame of mind towards infectious thoughts of loneliness, bitterness and gloominess. The agency has arranged inter religious prayers associated with Christian missionary people for conducting mass, share their feelings and spend time with this inmate. Likewise Sai Bhaba devotees are regularly coming and conduct Bhajans. The inmates are very happy in spending time with them. The inmates feel relieved of their ill- feelings. Further for their physical well being Yoga, Physiotherapy exercises and other manual exercises have been introduced and frequently conducted. Frequent group meetings have been conducted to interact and short out their grievance.

BRIDGING GENERATIONS:-

The “Each One Catch One” concept is adopted .Through that the younger and older generations are able to understand their feelings and what present scenarios that affected the relationship. This also helps the abandoned inmates to feel they are also within the family fabrics. This kind of mental strength has wiped their ill feelings and they themselves felt the relationship developed with younger generation is creates Came to understand they are not abandoned

NET WORKING?

Our Saranalayam Aged Home has developed a wide network programme with All Women police station, District Social Welfare office, Collectorate, Court, Government Hospital other NGO’s, Local bodies, Factories, Schools, College and SHG’s. In community level the agency has developed a network between with its organized existing SHG’s that helps the home activities. The network with Industries Labours and organized labours and on educational institution created good momentum of the service.Lions Club, Rotary Club and other local youth groups have visited our home and organized culture programmes and special meals to the beneficiaries of the Home.

PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL SUPPORT

The state of mind leads to all problems to all human beings. The aged also cannot escape from this. So psychological support is must for this people and should be given importance. For the aged, Saranalayam gives them conducive environment. It gives priority to each individual to upraising their ego and discards and diminishes their stress. For that one experienced professional psychological counsellor has beenappointed to deal the individual psychological problems. It is to support and to help them to overcome problem of their own.

In the aspect of physical promotion, exercise, yoga, meditation are provided.the Saranalayam aged home is associated with “ValumKalaiPairchi” (art of living) for giving training on Yoga and Meditation with respiration technique to the aged and the local people of this area also participate in the programme organized in the premises of the aged home twice in a week. This develops better understanding and good rapport between community and the aged home.

HEALTH SUPPORT:

In the health aspect, proper medical care has been provided to the inmates. Doctor is periodically visiting the inmates. who need, in-patient treatment are admitted in the Hospital. There are team of Doctors in different discipline are associating with agency for voluntary services. They take care on the inmates in different discipline.

They will include the inmates in their programmes like, free Medical Camps, special camps for Eye, Habits B, Diabetics, Etc. Physiotherapist Forum of Tiruchirapalli has adopted the Home. Every month the debuted team from the forum has visited the home and gives physical exercises to the aged to prevent ortho related problems.

INCOME GENERATION ACTIVITIES:-

Since the inmates, who felt they are also a productive sector; are involved in socio economic activities such as goatry, petty shop, chicken rearing, vermin culture, organic pest, herbal plantation and kitchen garden. This agency introduced mushroom culture to the inmates. They also involved in mushroom culture which gives high protein contented mushrooms as supplemental nutrition. From this program the inmates gain income also and feel they are able to earn something themselves.

RECREATION ACTIVITIES:-

For recreation daily Newspapers, Weeklies, Bi monthlies and monthlies are provided to them. Television facility is given for their visual satisfaction and to wipe out off their grievances and it also helps them as time passing tools. The nearby school children and neighbours are visiting our home now and then. They make good interaction with them.

To make easy their environmental stress, the agency has arranged out- doors visits. This out-doors visits have really given enthusiasm to the inmates. They also visit temples nearby District and Town as our Tour Visit and develop happy feeling
